Conservation of architecture and public decoration in the old town of Yurimaguas

Abstract

Introduction: over the years, architecture has gone through various periods, where humankind has generated representative styles for certain eras or places.

Objective: to characterize the conservation of architecture and public ornamentation in the old town of Yurimaguas.

Method: an observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The study population consisted of buildings found in the old town of Yurimaguas, which are still present during this period, 2022. The study analysis sample consisted of 18 buildings in the old town of Yurimaguas, using probability sampling.

Results: 9 buildings found in the historic center exhibit an eclectic architectural style. 67 % of the buildings have tiled roofs, 67 % of the buildings found in the historic center have a maintenance lifespan of between 0 and 10 years, 7 buildings found in the historic center are infrequent maintenance, 39 % of their architectural elements are in a fair state of conservation, 44 % of their roofs are in a good state of conservation, and 50 % of their floors are in a fair state of conservation.

Conclusions: the state of conservation of the buildings' facades meets fair conditions. The criteria for maintaining public ornamentation are not being adequately met. The placement of advertisements, posters, and publicity significantly affects the visibility of these historic features.
