Conservation of architecture and public ornamentation

Abstract

Introduction: over the years, architecture has gone through various periods where humankind has generated representative styles for certain eras or places.

Objective: to characterize the conservation of architecture and public ornamentation.

Method: a review of the available literature was conducted in databases such as SciELO, Scopus, and ClinicalKey, from which a total of 12 related articles were consulted. Empirical methods such as historical logic and analysis and synthesis were used.

Results: in various cities in Peru, there is a wealth of historical heritage, both tangible and intangible, and today its preservation is a concern. Architecture is conceptualized as the forced way of interpreting the context and displaying oneself within it. Public ornamentation relatively consists of the maintenance, cleaning, and care of all the decorative aspects of facades. The state of conservation is essential for growth. The important role that architects play in the public ornamentation that, over the years, builders have harmoniously adorned public places and buildings must not be forgotten.

Conclusions: architecture and public ornamentation are collective assets whose value lies in their significance for the community, where the main challenge remains striking a balance between material conservation, adaptation to contemporary uses, and urban development.
